Lewes-Rehoboth Rotary gives $3K to Harry K Foundation

Donation supports Food Bank mobile pantry program
March 18, 2023

The Rotary Club of Lewes-Rehoboth Beach recently donated $3,000 to the Harry K Foundation in support of its continuing efforts to combat food insecurity for Delaware children.

The foundation is partnering with the Food Bank of Delaware to implement a new mobile pantry project called the Desert Oases Feeding Program. The program's goal is to reach children living in areas identified by the Delaware Department of Education and the Department of Health and Social Services as most lacking in basic needs such as food, clothing and assistance with affordable shelter.

The foundation board intends to continue distributing food in partnership with the Food Bank’s vans to the same locations established in 2020, while adding new distribution sites identified in consultation with the DOE. The hope is to establish weekly events to provide food at the chosen sites for children and families in need.

The Harry K Foundation plans to pilot and grow the Desert Oases Feeding Program during its 2023 fiscal year, and add it to its existing food pantries and food backpack program. The foundation has always had the goal to grow responsibly in ways that will help effectively meet its mission to feed vulnerable children across Delaware.
