Lewes residents deserve to park

July 20, 2018

I read the recent article about the parking concerns in Lewes, and came to the conclusion that, despite it being stated otherwise, the residents are not being treated fairly.

The article had a tone of disdain toward naughty homeowners who have set up nonresident parking prevention such as driveways that span the length of the property. Why is this such a no-no that a new regulation has been put in place to prevent it in the future? It sounds like visitors are being favored over homeowners in this example.

Homeowners do not want visitors parking in front of their homes for a variety of reasons. For example, on Bayview Avenue, the only parking available to some residents is in front of their home. Visitors take those spots and the homeowners have nowhere to park.

I propose "resident only," no-fee permit parking on this street and every street with limited resident parking. That would make it fair to the taxpaying resident.

I hope the newly formed parking committee will consider the permit idea. Visitors should not supersede the homeowners, and it baffles me why the regulation makers think they should.
