Lewes Elementary School fifth-grade students enjoyed an engaging learning opportunity during a Dec. 5 visit from Dr. Aaron Carlisle, a marine biologist from the University of Delaware.
Carlisle shared fascinating information about sharks, including species commonly found in Delaware Bay. Students learned about the important role sharks play in maintaining a healthy ocean ecosystem and how they help keep marine environments balanced.
The presentation connected directly to the fifth-grade language arts and science curriculum, reinforcing classroom learning through real-world examples and expert insight.
“This was a wonderful opportunity for our students to see how what they are learning in class connects to real-world science,” said Katie McDermott, fifth-grade teacher at Lewes Elementary. “Dr. Carlisle’s presentation was engaging and helped students better understand the importance of sharks and ocean conservation.”
