Lighthouse summer work trips delayed by weather concerns

Score: Mother Nature - 3, Volunteers - 2
August 13, 2022

The Delaware River and Bay Lighthouse Foundation is dedicated to preserving the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse, but despite volunteers’ best-laid plans, they had to cancel one work trip in May and two more in July.

In June, the lighthouse was finally assessed for winter damage and work began. The Aug. 6 work visit was sorely needed, and the group was able to paint sections of the exterior structure.

The foundation can host tours of the lighthouse thanks to the restoration work done in previous years. Anyone who is interested in helping can contact Red Moulinier at sunnyshots@msn.com. Only foundation members are permitted to do work on the lighthouse. Membership information can be found at delawarebaylights.org under “Join Us.”

In addition to lighthouse work trips, volunteers are needed for website support, grant writing and general organizational activities. Email drblhf.connect@gmail.com to learn more.

Foundation members thank everyone who has supported their efforts in the past to ensure the future of the Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse.
