Lilly H. Walls, Georgetown native

Mrs. Lilly H. Walls, 92, of Georgetown, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016. Born June 4, 1924, she was the daughter of L. Mary Simpson and stepdaughter of George M. Simpson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband of 69 years, James F. “Jimmie” Walls.

 Mrs. Walls graduated from Georgetown High School and attended Goldey-Beacom College. She married Jimmie in Oklahoma City, Okla., Jan. 11, 1944. While Jimmie was overseas during World War II she earned her pilot’s license, an accomplishment of which she was quite proud.

 She was always involved in her children’s school activities, and with Jimmie, was a founding member of Sussex Pines Country Club. After her children were grown, she worked at Bird-Speakman Clothing Store in Rehoboth for many years.

Mrs. Walls is survived by her children; Mary Lynn Downs and her husband Jimmy; and George E. Walls and his wife Mimi; her grandchildren; Katie Downs, Jamie Walls and his wife Meghan, and Emily Walls; and by her great-grandchildren Keller, Hazel, Sienna and Piper. She is also survived by her sister-in-law; Virginia W. Speakman, nieces Linda, Missy and Amy, and their children and grandchildren.

 Services will be private. Memorial donations can be sent to Wesley United Methodist Church, 102 E. Laurel St., Georgetown, DE 19947. Arrangements in the care of Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
