Delaware Beaches Jellystone Park in Lincoln announced that the statue of local trotting legend Lincoln Bandit has now made the campground his new home.
The 31-year old Standardbred Trotter, owned by Judy and Walt Swain of Lincoln, recently passed, but they decided to memorialize him with a life like replica now standing in the children’s playground at the campground. Judy felt that making the children’s playground in the campground his final home made the most sense because Bandit was like a father to yearlings in their early stages of learning, teaching them horse etiquette. His demeanor was always caring and gentle to the yearlings as they grazed together in the fields of Lincoln.
He retired in 1999 but not without winning the prestigious Department of Agriculture Championship in 1989 and again in 1990 earning a lifetime fastest of 159:3 that same year under the training of Joe and Linda MacDonald and lifetime handler Dave Washer all of Smyrna. The campground is at 8295 Brick Granary Road in Lincoln. For more information or to make reservations, call 302-491-6614 or go to delawarejellystone.com.
