Loana Duron Marquez wins poster contest
H.O. Brittingham kindergarten student Loana Duron Marquez was selected as an Arbor Day Poster Contest winner representing kindergarten students from throughout Sussex County.
Loana’s artwork earned a tree-planting ceremony for her and her classmates at H.O. Brittingham, hosted by Delaware Forest Service Education Coordinator Ashley Melvin.
The annual contest is designed to teach students about forests and forest resources, and is a way for them to learn about the role trees play in the state and how they impact health and well-being. This year’s poster theme was Trees are Terrific...in Cities and Towns!
There were 12 overall winners selected from each grade category and each county. Each winner received a tree-themed book, a free tree-planting ceremony at school and an invitation to the Arbor Day ceremony with Gov. John Carney.
