Local author releases ‘L is for Lewes: An A to Z Maritime History’

June 4, 2022

The Lewes Historical Society announced that local author Corinne Litzenberg has just released her new book, “L is for Lewes: An A to Z Maritime History. “

A member and volunteer with the Lewes Historical Society, Litzenberg wanted to commemorate the society’s 60th anniversary this year.

Her book takes the reader through each letter of the alphabet in a series of verses about Lewes, lavishly illustrated with photographs and artwork. Through a set of creative collaborations with several organizations and individuals, the author collected vivid images of Lewes to help tell the history of the town and celebrate the Lewes Historical Society.

Litzenberg worked closely with Lewes Historical Society staff and volunteers to include pictures of significant objects in its collections, as well as notable members of the community. She invited members of the Lewes-based Cape Artists to share their works to help illustrate the book. Photographers Deny Howeth, Kim Trost, Sue Ingram Keller, Ron MacArthur, Gregory Breese and Fred Phillips all graciously shared their photos on a variety of Lewes subjects. And, to honor her passion for environmental protection, Litzenberg included key images from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, and the University of Delaware College of Earth, Ocean & Environment.

The book will be available for purchase at the Sea Glass Festival Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and 5, at the Lewes Historical Society campus, 110 Shipcarpenter St., Lewes, and later at the society’s museum shops.
