Local authors Jacobs, Watton and Deoul to read, meet and greet Dec. 10 at Browseabout
Browseabout Books invites the public to hear J. Lee Watton, author of the memoir "Out of Step," along with award-winning essayist Fay Jacobs and novelist Stefani Deoul, read from their works from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, at the bookstore and gift shop on Rehoboth Ave.
Browseabout is showing off its new reading/meeting space in the store and inviting area book lovers to come in for an afternoon of literary snippets, laughs and a Q&A about small publishing with author/publisher Jacobs.
The public can also meet Milton resident J. Lee Watton, whose memoir "Out of Step" is creating quite a buzz nationally. She will read about and discuss her experiences as a Navy WAVE in 1965, caught up in an anti-gay witch hunt. Now that Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell has been repealed, stories like Watton’s are front and center to preserve the history of the gays in the military fight.
Writer and activist Col. Grethe Cammermeyer calls "Out of Step" a “poignant and humorous memoir, capturing the joy and camaraderie, along with the ultimate shame and heartache of being a lesbian recruit in the armed forces.”
Joining Watton will be Rehoboth resident, television producer and novelist Stefani Deoul, whose book "The Carousel" won the Independent Publishers' IPPY Bronze Medal, Mid-Atlantic Best Fiction and Delaware Press Association Fiction Book of the Year.
Completing the trio of writers will be A&M Books publisher and author Fay Jacobs, a regular columnist for Delaware Beach Life and Letters from CAMP Rehoboth. Her latest compilation of essays, "For Frying Out Loud - Rehoboth Beach Diaries" recently won the National Federation of Press Women Nonfiction Book of the Year for Humor, a ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year, Honorable Mention for Humor and an American Library Association Over the Rainbow Award.
