Lois J. Gilpin, stained glass artist
Lois J. Gilpin died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at her home as a result of an ongoing cancer malignancy.
Lois was born Jan. 17, 1933, daughter of the late Harold and Clara Hoover, in Baltimore, Md. She attended and graduated Eastern High School, shortly thereafter marrying her high school sweetheart, Charles (Ed) Gilpin. Lois was briefly employed with the then-named Baltimore Gas and Electric Co., leaving to begin her new career as a mother and housewife.
Having majored in art in school, in her spare time, Lois became proficient in the craft of stained glass, creating many items of work still displayed at home and in friends’ homes. Moving to the Lewes area part time, she made many friends as a member of Lewes' First Town Club, and later as a member of the women's auxiliary, American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro.
Lois is survived by her loving husband, Ed Gilpin; three sons: Douglas and his wife Susan of Maiden, N.C., Craig and his wife Kimberly of Culpeper, Va., and Gary of Baltimore. She considered herself blessed with additional family of eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren whom she loved very much.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held for Lois at a time and place to be determined. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
