Lots of people really dig tulips

Lewes in Bloom’s 2021 spring flowers cover the city in multitudes of color
April 27, 2021

Thanks to Lewes in Bloom volunteers, Lewes was alive with color this spring. The volunteers planted more than 26,000 new bulbs at 21 locations in fall 2020. That’s in addition to the 23,000 tulip, 2,000 daffodil, 900 hyacinth, 500 iris, 500 crocus and 150 allium bulbs they planted in fall 2019, with about 40 percent reblooming this past spring, making for the greatest display of blooming flowers ever seen in Lewes.

To clean out the beds in preparation for more plantings, Lewes in Bloom supervised a tulip bulb dig at 11 locations starting at 8 a.m., April 27. Hundreds of people turned out with shovels and bags in hand to take part in the dig.
