The event helps celebrate the Community ESL (English as a Second Language) Program’s 20th anniversary.
Festival attendees enjoyed cuisine from the area’s most popular food trucks, music and dance performances from talented international artists. There was fun for the whole family. A magic show, games and prizes were available for the young and the young at heart. Attendees learned about local immigrant businesses and experienced the traditions of ESL students.
“Despite the weather, the Community ESL Program’s multicultural festival was a wonderful celebration of music, dance and food from around the world,” said advisory board Chair Kate Cauley. “Students and teachers from the program joined community members, and businesses from the Delaware Alliance for Latino Enterprises, for an afternoon of great entertainment and making new friends.”
Entertainment was supplied by the Janosik Polish Dancers, Reve Locer, The International Dance Company: Romanian Folk Dancers, The Kings Voices, Ballet Mexico and Elizabeth Rai, renowned Pakistani vocalist.
The Lutheran Church Community ESL Program improves the educational and career opportunities of non-native speakers by providing English reading, writing, and speaking instruction, helping students successfully integrate into southern Delaware communities. It supports adult learners and their families, who in turn can share their expertise and talents with the neighborhoods and businesses where they live and work.
