Machine blade slices into Georgetown home
A metal object that sliced into a Georgetown home Feb. 4 came from machinery operating nearby, police said.
Delaware State Police were called about 12:50 p.m. to a home in the 36000 block of Old Gate Drive in the Liberty West community for a report of a metal object that had struck a residence. When troopers arrived, police said, they learned that earlier in the day an unknown metal object had possibly fallen from the sky, penetrated the roof and siding of the home, and was found lodged in the grass next to the home. No one was injured, police said.
During the investigation into where the metal object came from, police said, troopers contacted the Federal Aviation Administration since the homeowner said that it possibly fell from the sky.
Delaware State Police Cpl. Lewis Briggs III said Feb. 5 that a man operating a rotary cutter near the Liberty West community at the time of the incident contacted police and told them a blade had broken off and was thrown from the machine. “It was determined that this was the metal object that hit the house,” Briggs said.
