Macpherson coaches and plays to back-to-back titles

December 27, 2014

Dave Marshall Tennis Touring Coach Dave Macpherson is having a good month. After helping coach the Switzerland team to a Davis Cup win in November, he showed off his on-court skills to win in the Fiesta Bowl Senior National Championship with Dave Marshall. Macpherson is also the full-time coach of the greatest doubles team of all time, Mike and Bob Bryan.

Macpherson was recently asked to coach Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka and the Swiss team in the Davis Cup finals against France. Federer and Wawrinka were straight-set winners to help the Swiss clinch the championship Nov. 27-29. Much credit was given to Macpherson in helping the Swiss pair win their doubles match on clay. The pair had lost the four previous matches on red clay.

Macpherson followed his Davis Cup win by teaming with Dave Marshall to win the Fiesta Bowl National Cat 2 Hard Court Championships in Scottsdale, Ariz., Dec. 3-7. The top-seeded team won the title without the loss of a set. In the semifinals they defeated the team of Scott Stanford and Brian Marvor 6-4, 6-4. Stanford and Marvor were former stars at North Carolina State. In the finals, Macpherson and Marshall defeated the team of Jose Rojas and Troy Wethe 6-2, 6-1. The Fiesta Bowl is the largest adult national tournament in the United States. With the win, Marshall climbs to No. 6 in the United States in doubles.
