Margaret McFarlane, enjoyed cooking
Margaret McFarlane, 101, of Milton, and formerly of Gloversville, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Harrison House in Georgetown. She went to sleep and did not wake up; basically, the way most of us would like to go.
Margaret was born in Westfield, Mass., July 17, 1914. She moved to Gloversville in 1934 and remained there until 2007, at which time she moved to Delaware to be closer to her son Bruce.
She worked in the catering business until the age of 83, and always enjoyed preparing meals for friends and family. In fact, she prepared many dinners while after the age of 100. She lived on her own and in her own apartment until 100 years and 7 months. Just like Frank Sintra's famous song "She did it her way"
She is no stranger to the Cape Gazette. Her picture was featured in the Cape Gazette for her 99th, 100th, and 101st birthdays. Also in our February 23, 2010, issue she was featured as the "weather picture" of the week shoveling her son's driveway after the blizzard of February 2010. Once again she appeared in the Cape Gazette as to being the oldest person ever to ride on the Milton Clipper Express during the Shorebird Festival in 2014. During her time in Delaware she said that she knew how celebrities feel now.
There was a Celebration of Life for her Aug.1. in Milton. She was returned to Gloversville for burial Aug. 3.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Harrison House, 110 West North St., Georgetown, DE 19947, where she spent the last eight weeks of her life in the very good care of the nurses and staff of that facility.
