Margaret 'Peggy' Walker, woman of faith
Margaret "Peggy" M. Walker, 82, of Lewes, passed away Saturday, Jan. 30, 2016, at her home. She was born Nov. 12, 1933. Peggy was the daughter and the last of the Bridget and Owen Cooney family.
Peggy was born and raised in the Bronx, N.Y., where she attended the St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School and the Sacred Heart of Mary Academy on Marmion Avenue. Throughout her life, Peggy was a woman of faith. She was a former Sister of the Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Mary Community in New York. Upon retirement to Delaware, she became a member of St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes and was dedicated to the Columbiettes. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Mason Dixon Ladies Auxiliary Post 7234 in Ocean View. Peggy enjoyed spending time volunteering at various local organizations, and being involved in the church.
One of Peggy's last wishes was for anyone reading her obituary to perform a kind deed in her honor for someone that they may have disliked.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m., at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m., at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, N.Y.
Memorial contributions may be made in Peggy's memory to the St. Thomas Aquinas School, 1909 Daly Ave., Bronx, NY 10460.
