The Mariner baseball team used 13 hits to down district rivals Beacon May 8 at Cape’s Chris Short Field.
Mariner’s Joe Ruark went 3-for-3 with a triple and three RBIs. Trizton Willey went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Ike Beam went 1-for-2 with a double and three RBIs to pace the offense for the Milton Vikings.
Jordan Williams and Christian Cabello added an RBI each.
Ruark went 5.2 innings on the mound, striking out nine batters. Tynan Smith finished the game.
Beacon got two hits from Cole Speakman.
Jameson Pease threw 5.1 innings, striking out one batter. Anthony Brittingham came in to finish the game on the mound.
Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
