Mariner volunteer named Delaware Mentor of the Month

The Cape Henlopen School District announced Mariner Middle School volunteer Teresa Shockley was named Delaware’s Mentor of the Month for March by the Connecting Generations Creative Mentoring program. The recognition highlights Shockley’s dedication, passion and effectiveness in mentoring and guiding young minds.

"At Creative Mentoring, we believe that the power of mentorship transforms lives, shaping both students and mentors alike,” said Tanny Dickerson, director of mentoring programs at Connecting Generations. “Each month, we have the honor of recognizing an outstanding mentor who exemplifies dedication, compassion and the spirit of connection. Our Mentor of the Month Teresa Shockley is a testament to the impact one person can have in guiding and uplifting the next generation. We celebrate her commitment to building brighter futures, one relationship at a time."

“Teresa exemplifies the true spirit of mentorship,” said Kim Hoey Stevenson, Cape district mentor coordinator. “Her dedication and ability to positively influence students is truly inspiring. We are thrilled to have her contributions recognized and to celebrate her achievements.”

Frank Shockley, Mariner school counselor, nominated Teresa for the recognition. “Teresa has been a consistent addition to the mentoring program for over eight years,” said Shockley. “She’s always willing to work with any student and is happy to add multiple mentees to her caseload. Students always look forward to her visits and enjoy the activities she plans for them.”

“I’m honored to have been nominated and selected as a Mentor of the Month,” said Teresa Shockley. “Each of the students I have had the opportunity to work with has had a positive impact on me in some way. They are the reason I continue to love what I do.”
