Marlene Ann McCoy passed away in Venice, Fla., Feb. 8, 2024. She was born in Reading, Pa., Feb. 19, 1936.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Eugene Earl McCoy; and sisters, Emily Danforth of Sebastian, Fla., and Jennie Hansen of Lewes.

She had five children, Eugene P. McCoy of Englewood, Fla., Christie A. Oliver of New Holland, Pa., Cathie A. Collins of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; two of her children, Michele McCoy and Scott McCoy, preceded her in death.

Her legacy is five grandchildren, Michael, Jeremy, Nicholas, Melanie and Rebekah; and four great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Henry, Annabelle and Ripley.

She married in Reading, Pa., and moved to West Reading, where they began their family. They moved to Wernersville, Pa., in 1960, where they finished raising their children. They retired to Lewes in 1994. They enjoyed walks on the beach and visiting Cape Henlopen State Park. They enjoyed observing the deer foraging in the open areas. Marlene felt blessed when she sometimes saw the albino deer grazing with the herd. In 2020, they relocated to Venice, Fla.

She looked forward to the Doo-Dah Parade each year and in the spring, the ospreys returning to their nests down the street.

Marlene worked for 23 years as an LPN at Wernersville State Hospital, retiring in 1991.

She was a member of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Reading, Pa., and Groome United Methodist Church in Lewes. She enjoyed the fellowship of her Monday morning Bible study group for 20 years.

She loved her sisters, Jennie, Emily and Alice Young, very much. During retirement, she was able to spend every day with her sister, Jennie, helping with charity work at the local food basket and just having fun together. She enjoyed bird-watching and playing card games with her family. Marlene loved ice cream and coconut cake.

Marlene had a friendly demeanor and a good sense of humor, which put people at ease. She will surely be missed by many people.

Marlene’s celebration of life will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, Feb. 23, at Christ Lutheran Church, Englewood, Fla.
