Martha C. Coffman, loving wife, mother
Martha C. Coffman, 91, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly from Maryland, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023. Her wishes were to donate her body for the advancement of medical education and research study. Martha was born Nov. 26, 1931, in Altoona, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 69 years, John D. Coffman (May 14, 2022); and her son, John E. Coffman (Oct. 12, 2022). She is survived by her sister, Janet Carrieri of Altoona, Pa.; her children: Kathleen Bishop, Colleen Peper, Linda (Mark) Sullivan and George (Dona) Coffman; grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and many friends. Martha treasured time spent with family and friends more than anything, and will live on forever in their hearts and memories. She was a devout Catholic, and the charity closest to her heart was The Little Sisters of the Poor.
While raising five children, Martha also worked at an ophthalmologist office for 25 years. After retiring, they made Delaware their permanent residence. She was a member of St. Edmond Catholic Church, American Legion Auxiliary Unit 5, Cape Henlopen Elks, and VFW Auxiliary. She volunteered at Beebe Hospital for 12 years. Martha and John enjoyed their trips to the Delaware casinos.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 20, at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach. A celebratory luncheon will be held following the service.
