Martha Feigel Fraser, longtime educator
Martha Feigel Fraser, 73, of Wilmington and Lewes passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born Feb. 18, 1948, in Syracuse, N.Y., daughter of the late George Milford and Mary Jane (Hahn) Feigel.
Mrs. Fraser graduated from Syracuse University, where she got her bachelor’s degree in education. On July 11, 1970, she married the love of her life, Frederick H. Fraser, in Syracuse, whom she had first met in high school 10th-grade homeroom. Mrs. Fraser worked as an educator at a Syracuse middle school until she and her husband relocated to Wilmington in 1973. After starting her family, she worked as a college English instructor at Delaware Tech Stanton Campus from 1990 until 2010 during which time she also tutored the athletes.
In her free time, she loved cooking, gardening, doing crossword puzzles, and spoiling her grandchildren. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with those she held most dear. Mrs. Fraser was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Fraser is survived by her husband of 51 years, Frederick H. Fraser; her children: Dr. Justin Fraser (Dr. Claire Fraser) of Lexington, Ky., and Dr. Alexis Hallissey (Dr. Brendan Hallissey) of Summerville, S.C.; her grandchildren: Rhys Fraser, Morgan Fraser and Gunnar Hallissey; and her brother, George Feigel of Ithaca, N.Y.
A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, at Bethel United Methodist Mausoleum, Savannah Road, Lewes. Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes. The family plans to host a Celebration of Life gathering once the weather permits a safe outdoor venue.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mrs. Fraser's memory to the American Cancer Society, donate3.cancer.org.
