Mary Angela Valenti-Bloom, woman of deep faith

August 5, 2025

Mary Angela Valenti-Bloom, daughter of the late Charles N. Valenti and Julia Mariany Valenti, lost her battle with cancer Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

She is survived by her children, Julia Anne Bloom, Richard Rae Bloom and Olivia Rose Chapell; siblings Vincent A. Valenti, Christopher C. Valenti and Anne Elvera Valenti; granddaughter, Sofia Chapell; fiancé, Scott Gornell; and numerous cousins, extended family, and friends.

Born Nov. 25, 1963, in Upper Falls, Md., Mary enjoyed an idyllic life in the country surrounded by nature. As she grew, she developed a passion for tennis, the Orioles, Lewes Beach, and egg custard snowballs.

Mary attended Perry Hall High School, then graduated from college with a degree in teaching. Her greatest achievement in life was becoming a mother and raising her family. Mary relished every aspect of motherhood, flooding her home with joy and love, and being a role model to the many cousins who often visited. She loved nothing more than taking all the kids on a last-minute adventure, exploring the outdoors, and God’s beautiful creation.

Mary met Scott Gornell March 15, 2014. He became a father figure to her children. With him, they traveled extensively, exploring each location with zeal and wonder. They joined a bocce ball league and made many lasting friendships. Scott and Mary enjoyed a beautiful love story.

Mary had a deep faith, and it sustained her through this long cancer battle. She never faltered in her belief that her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, would welcome her to heaven when she took her last breath.

Mary will be remembered for her radiant smile, infectious laugh, huge heart, and the endless love she showered on all who knew her.
