Mary Louise (Waller) Workman, telephone co. retiree

Mary Louise Workman, 85, of Georgetown passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at Bayhealth Sussex Campus. Mary Louise was born in Seaford, daughter of the late Harold J. and Ida Raye (Scott) Waller.

Mary Louise worked for 35 years with Bell Atlantic/Diamond State Telephone and retired several years ago. She retired as a field clerk and had worked in the Georgetown, Milford and Dover service centers.

Mary Louise was a member of Grace UM Church in Georgetown and was active in the church and its Willing Strivers ladies group.  Mary Louise was very active in her local community and loved being social.  Her memberships included AARP, New Century Club, Telephone Pioneers and Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.  Mary Louise was also a very active member of CHEER where she especially enjoyed the activities and friendships made there.  In her spare time she enjoyed reading and travelling.

In addition to her parents, Mary Louise is preceded in death by her husband, Clinton K. “Skinner” Workman (2002).

She is survived by her daughter, Ella R. Betts and husband Wesley; three grandchildren, Joshua Betts, Brittany Fry and husband Chad, and Jordan Betts.  She was excited to one day be a great-grandmother.  Mary Louise is also survived by a nephew to whom she was close, Elliott Workman and wife Lee Joy; stepbrother, Donald Newson; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

A public visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown. A private funeral service and interment at Union Cemetery will immediately follow.  All attending the visitation or funeral are required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mary Louise’s memory to CHEER, 546 S. Bedford St., Georgetown, DE 19947, or the Georgetown Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 77, Georgetown, DE 19947.
