Mary P. Fisher, enjoyed reading her Bible
Mary P. Fisher, 100, of Dagsboro, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, April 25, 2019. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Fisher was born Jan. 10, 1919, in Aldan, Pa., to the late John H. and Mary Elizabeth Godfrey Hudson. She received her early childhood education from the Aldan public school system. After the passing of her mother, Mary’s father relocated the family to Delaware where he had support of extended family in raising his only child.
In 1939, Mary married David Roscoe Fisher. Five children were born to this union: John, David, Bruce, Lisa and Patricia. Mary spent her adult years as a housewife, caring for their family and home. She would later become a caregiver to her grandchildren while their parents worked. Mary was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Millsboro where she enjoyed fellowship and singing. When she couldn’t make it out to church on Sundays, she’d watch evangelical ministries on television and/or listen to gospel on the radio. Reading was one of her favorite hobbies, especially reading her Bible.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, David Roscoe Fisher in 1992; daughter, Patricia Kirby in 2014; and cousins Catherine Mariner and Pauline Godfrey.
Mary is survived by three sons: John H. Fisher and wife Frances of Dagsboro, David R. Fisher Jr. of Millsboro, and Bruce A. Fisher of Millsboro; one daughter, Lisa Myers and husband Joseph of Lewes; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; extended family members and a special friend, Virginia Lyons.
Friends and family may call for visitation and viewing from 12 till 1 p.m., Friday, May 3, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro. A graveside service and committal will commence at 1:30 p.m. at Millsboro Cemetery, Millsboro. Chaplain Tesha Miller will be the officiant.
The family would like to say thank you to Compassionate Care Hospice, especially Quentara Carroll, CNA; Nanci Sajban, RN; Chaplain Tesha Miller; and Amanda Pearson-Carmody, social worker, for their wonderful care of Mrs. Fisher.
