Maurice ‘Sonny’ Potter Jr., owned well drilling co.

Maurice "Sonny" Jones Potter Jr., 85, of Milton passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at his home.  He was born Dec. 17, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Maurice Jones Sr. and Isabel Potter.

Sonny was a graduate of Ambler High School in Ambler, Pa.  He attended the Ogontz Center at Penn State University, where he earned his associate’s degree in engineering and drafting, prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army.  Following his military service, Sonny returned home to Blue Bell, Pa., to work with his father.  Together, they owned and operated Ridpath and Potter Well Drilling, Co., where he worked in the family business for more than 30 dedicated years.  Upon retirement, he moved to North Wales, Pa., where he resided until his move to Milton a year ago. 

Sonny’s joyful and gentle nature touched the hearts of all who knew and loved him.  He had a genuine love of people, animals and the world around him that rubbed off on everyone he met.  Sonny lived his life with honor, grace, humility and love.  He will never be forgotten.

Sonny is survived by his sisters: Holly Lawson (Stephen) and Esther P. Thornton; his nephew, Paul Schultz; his niece Sarah Leon (Ernest); his great-nephews:  Ethan Leon and Ian Leon; and his great-niece, Yasmine Leon.

Services will be private.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
