Memorial foundation eases burden of medical expenses

Ignatius DiNardo Foundation continues doctor’s legacy of helping
May 31, 2020

The family of Dr. Ignatius (Iggy) DiNardo has established a foundation in his memory to ease the financial burden of medical expenses for those in need in Sussex County, and Wicomico and Worcester counties in Maryland.

A dedicated father, husband, son, brother, friend and physician, DiNardo passed away in December 2019. He devoted his life to helping and healing others, and to creating a healthy and happy family. He had an infectious laugh, a kind and curious heart, and an inner peace that always radiated.

In 1975, DiNardo graduated as valedictorian of Loyola Blakefield in Towson, Md., where he wrestled and was captain of the tennis team. He then completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at Georgetown University. Following graduation, DiNardo completed his residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He served a four-year commitment with the National Health Service Corps and was assigned to Princess Anne, Md. During his time on the Eastern Shore, he reconnected with Joanie, and they married in 1988.

The couple settled in Salisbury, Md., and he opened an internal medicine practice, Huddleston and DiNardo, PA. Over the years, DiNardo cared for many patients throughout the Eastern Shore at various hospitals and received numerous awards based on quality of care, including Patients’ Choice Awards and Compassionate Doctor Recognition.

Beyond his private practice, DiNardo served as a hospitalist at Atlantic General Hospital until his death. He also developed a passion for medical consulting and serving as an expert witness with Coastal Internal Medicine.

DiNardo’s family members have been comforted by stories shared by former patients, colleagues and friends in remembering him. The stories that most inspired his family told of DiNardo reaching into his own pocket to help his patients and going the extra mile to provide the best care possible. Hearing these memories inspired the family to create the Ignatius DiNardo Foundation. Their goal is to continue his efforts in easing the burden of medical expenses for those in need. By removing the financial burden from the equation, patients can focus their energy on health and recovery.
