April 18, 2022

Michael "Mitch" Jonathon Mitchell, 47, of Lewes, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was born Feb. 7, 1975, in Pottstown, Pa., son of John and Susan (Flanegan) L. Mitchell.

Mitch graduated from Pottsgrove High School, Class of 1993. He continued his studies at Lock Haven College, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Mitch lived in Lewes with his family, having formerly resided in Pottstown. After relocating to Delaware, he enjoyed meeting new people while working at Safeway as a front-end manager, and he was well-liked by all customers.

Mitch had many interests and hobbies. He was a voracious reader, and enjoyed living at the beach and going to different restaurants. Mitch was an enthusiastic sports fan, and loved watching basketball and football with his dad, especially his favorite team, the Cincinnati Bengals. Mitch loved music and writing, and had a passion for astronomy and stargazing. A kindhearted spirit with a great sense of humor, he always had a warm-hearted and charitable nature, helping others in any way he could. Mitch’s next greatest love was for animals. He adored cats, in particular.  Above all, Mitch enjoyed time spent with those he held most dear. He treasured his family and cherished all the long talks with his sister, Barbi. Loved by many, he will be deeply and genuinely missed by all who knew him.

Mitch was preceded in death by his beloved cats, Cosmo and Dusty. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Barbara Mitchell of Bridgeville, and his many extended family, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Final care for Mitch has been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Mitch's memory to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, delawarehospice.org.
