Mill Pond Garden near Lewes will be open from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Sunday, Oct. 20, featuring a variety of mid-autumn flowering plants. A horticulturist will be on duty to answer questions.
Mill Pond Garden is located off Minos Conaway Road at 31401 Melloy Court, Lewes. An $18 ticket will admit one car with up to six passengers included. Tickets may be purchased with cash only at check-in or via the website, millpondgarden.com.
Especially featured will be camellias, chrysanthemums, asters, salvias and the last flush of roses and annuals attracting many species of pollinators. Visitors may stroll along 2,000 feet of pathways through garden rooms with water features, a koi pond, epiphyte garden, mushroom garden, abundant wildlife, especially birds, and excellent vistas onto Red Mill Pond. The site includes more than 550 native and non-native cultivars with ornamental woody species labeled to serve the community as an idea resource for what plants can do very well in Cape Region gardens.
Mill Pond Garden is the only professional botanical garden in the Cape Region, dedicated to providing the advantages of professional horticulture and mostly native displays tailored to local growing conditions. The garden is also a Certified Wildlife Habitat as recognized by the National Wildlife Federation, displaying a wealth of ideas for gardeners to help attract and increase wildlife.
