Mildred 'Millie' Crawford, found comfort in faith

Mildred "Millie" Burdette Crawford, 90, of Milton, went to the Lord peacefully Thursday, March 31, 2016. Born on a rural farm in Maryland, she was the eldest of her four siblings raised by the late M. Viola Sheets Gue and Earl T. Gue Sr. She is survived by siblings Fran (Gus) Gue Jr., and Earla Tyra.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ira L. Burdette Sr.; her second husband, Warren "Bo" Crawford; her sons, Ira L. Burdette Jr. and David L. Burdette; and her great-granddaughter, Sarah Franco. She is survived by daughters Ann B. Cox and husband (Daniel) of Hanover, Pa., Joyce A. Mayne and husband (Jeff) of Willow Street, Pa. and son Kevin E. Burdette and wife (Nancy) of Milton; daughters-in-law Elizabeth "Clem" Burdette of Keymar, Md. and Sally Burdette of Ijamsville, Md.; along with 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren

Mildred attended Sound U.M. Church, Selbyville, and was a lifetime congregant of Howard Chapel U.M. Church, Mt. Airy, Md. She served numerous positions with both churches and always found comfort in her faith and service to others.

Her love of people, especially children, resulted in her long career as a school cafeteria worker, school bus driver and later as a driver of a trolley for the Town of Ocean City. She enjoyed singing with the Sweet Adelines, quilting, sewing, gardening and cooking for large family gatherings. In recent years, she cherished talking with friends and attending the Milton Seniors.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 9, at noon, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.

A Committal of Burial will occur Monday, April 11, at 11:45 a.m., at Howard Chapel UM Church, 1970 Long Corner Road, Mount Airy. The family will receive visitors beginning at 11 a.m.
