Milford High Drama Club to present ‘Seussical’ March 3-5

February 25, 2022

Read Across America Day is celebrated on March 2, the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, to get kids excited about reading. Milford High School Drama Club will perform “Seussical The Musical” Theatre for Young Audiences Version from Thursday to Saturday, March 3 to 5.

“Seussical” is a combination of many Dr. Seuss stories, such as “Horton Hears a Who,” “The Cat in the Hat,” “Yertle the Turtle and Other Stories,” and “Green Eggs and Ham.”

This scaled-down version of the show is geared toward a young audience and will run about an hour and 15 minutes with no intermission. The show has something for the “smallest of the small and the tallest of the tall.”

Director Carissa Meiklejohn said, “We did the full production of this show back in 2013, and it was such a delight that I knew it was one we should do again. We decided on the young audiences version to encourage our youngest community members to see it.” To be considerate of bedtimes on a school night, Thursday’s opening-night performance will be held at 6 p.m.

This exciting show will entertain audience members of all ages, from the very young to the very-young-at-heart. Meiklejohn said, “Practically every song is a different style of music. It is so much fun and full of energy.”

Milford High School seniors who are featured in the cast, crew, and pit orchestra include Nick Del Rossi, Kyleigh Dunlap, Jakob Faulkner, Xavier Green, Anna Hatfield, Stephen Layton, Danae Martinez Romualdo, Rowan Melvin, Victoria Nikolaeva, Sophia Sobota, Amiere Sudler, Haley Thompson, Paige Thompson, Mystery Villa, Alonzo Walker and Cullen Young.

Milford High School students are excited to have a group of more than 15 student singers from Banneker Elementary joining as The Who ensemble.

Performances will be held in the MHS auditorium at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 3; 7 p.m., Friday, March 4; and 1 and 7 p.m., Saturday, March 5. Tickets will be available at the door; cost is $5 for students 18 years and younger, $6 for senior citizens 60 and over, and $8 for all others.

Masks must be worn properly over the nose and mouth at all times while in the school building.
