Milford Museum to host exhibit opening reception March 21

March 19, 2023

The Milford Museum will host an opening reception for its new Alfred T.A. Torbert exhibit at 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 21.

The exhibit is supported by donations from the family of the late Marvin Schelhouse, who was considered an expert on Torbert.

“The family has generously donated many items that belonged to the general and his wife Mary,” said Claudia Leister, museum executive director. “The items include a beautiful goblet set, a music box that he likely brought from Paris, where he served as United States consul general for some time. The artifacts were collected over the years by Marvin and preserved beautifully.”

The museum closed during January in order to create special exhibit space for the artifacts. Some of the photos in the collection have never been seen before, including a wedding photo of the general and his wife.

The public is welcome to attend the exhibit opening; light refreshments will be available.

The Milford Museum is located in Milford’s original post office building on the corner of South Walnut and Southeast Second streets. Housing more than 13,000 artifacts, the museum is now a treasure trove of stories. Each collection item tells its own tale about the history of Milford and surrounding areas. The mission of the Milford Museum is to preserve the past for the future.
