Dozens gathered in Millsboro’s Cupola Park June 13 for the Rally for Equal Justice.

The rally was organized by Millsboro resident Jake Taylor, and was hosted by the Sussex Central Class of 1980. Many in the crowd were past graduates.

The Rally for Equal Justice was not intended as a protest, but instead as a peaceful way to advocate for equal rights following the death of George Floyd. The event included speeches from Millsboro Chief of Police Brian Calloway, Father David Archibald of Millsboro’s St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Sussex County historian Ralph Prettyman, activist Michael Freshwater and the Rev. James Hill Jr. of Dickerson Chapel AME Church.

People were encouraged to wear masks and stay socially distanced. Once the speeches were finished, more people joined in to march on Main Street.

The march remained peaceful, with a majority of people wearing masks and holding signs.
