Millsboro teams up with The Retail Coach to recruit new businesses
The Town of Millsboro is partnering with The Retail Coach to recruit new retailers and sit-down restaurants to its community. The Retail Coach was selected after town officials reviewed several bids.
Millsboro promotes itself as truly pro-business and pro-family. According to the 2018 Report on State Planning Issues, Millsboro ranks No. 1 out of the 25 Sussex County cities for number of residential building permits issued – a leading indicator of population growth. Sussex County is the fastest-growing county in Delaware. Millsboro lowered impact fees by about 25 percent, and there is no sales tax.
Millsboro is situated along Route 113, a four-lane highway, and Routes 24, 20 and 30. It is fewer than 20 miles from the coastal communities of Lewes, Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach and Bethany Beach.
The Retail Coach team will analyze the community’s retail trade area – where people are coming from to shop and dine in the community. Research performed by The Retail Coach will show where there are retail gaps, or why people are leaving the community to shop or eat. The Retail Coach will identify potential retailers and restaurants that would be a good fit for the community, and then help Millsboro establish relationships with those retailers and try to recruit them.
“The Town of Millsboro is proud to be the first and only city in the State of Delaware to partner with The Retail Coach,” said Town Manager Sheldon P. Hudson. “Using the data the town gathered through the survey that was conducted in the spring of last year as well as other information, Millsboro continues to do everything it reasonably can to recruit the high-quality, sit-down restaurants and retailers that residents have indicated they want to see come to the town.”
