Millville Volunteer Fire Company starts capital campaign

Looking to raise $2 million in five years
July 30, 2021

The Millville Volunteer Fire Company has kicked off its Community Heroes Capital Campaign with hopes of raising $2 million over the next five years to expand the fire station and fund the essential apparatus replacement program.

The building project will add over 4,800 square feet to the existing building and include needed renovations to the fire station. New sleeping quarters will be constructed for the live-in program which allows members to stay at the station during severe weather emergencies. Additional space will be available for emergency training classes, and an upgraded kitchen area will allow for more fundraising events. An upgraded sprinkler system will be installed to protect personnel and apparatus.

The second part, the apparatus replacement program, ensures that the company has reliable, up-to-date emergency fire equipment to respond to emergencies in the area. Maintenance costs, technology changes and reliability concerns necessitate replacement due to a 20-year expected life span for emergency equipment.

One of the major pieces of apparatus, the engine-tanker, is currently scheduled for replacement in 2023 at a cost of $850,000, and a frontline engine will need replacement at $575,000 in the near future.

Donor recognition plaques will be placed in the foyer of the fire station on the Millville VFC Community Heroes wall, and building donor recognition plaques will be placed near the area related to the donation.
