Milton Elementary dance party rewards positive behavior

February 17, 2019

Winter break provides a time for staff and students to relax and recharge before jumping back into the school year.

When students returned to school at the beginning of January, Milton Elementary students and staff spent time refreshing their memory on school rules and the kindness initiative they started at beginning of the year.

“In each homeroom and related arts class, students took time to revisit rules and expectations,” said Gloria Ho, Milton Elementary social worker. “Each class had a sheet with an image of a battery, and the goal was to fill or recharge that battery the first few weeks back.”

A dance party was the students’ reward for refilling their batteries by following rules and meeting expectations. DJ Kurt Warren of JKA Entertainment led the assembly as students celebrated their recharged batteries with dancing, singing and glow sticks.

“All of the students and even the staff had a great time,” said Ho. “This was something the kids looked forward to, and it really motivated them to work hard and to continue to build on what they started the first half of the year.”
