Milton Elementary FAME students present ‘Willy Wonka’

Milton Elementary students in an after-school theater camp performed “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at the Milton Theatre March 11.
Friends At Milton Elementary students worked with Milton Theatre educational staff to learn parts and songs from the favorite children’s story.
The immersive learning experience lets students show their creativity through performance while learning communication skills, FAME co-coordinator Brittany Bailey said.
The partnership with the Milton Theatre developed last spring after Bailey and FAME co-coordinator Kacie Goins applied for a state grant for the program, earning $320,000 a year for up to five years, for a total of $1.6 million.
Grant funds were also used to expand the theater’s summer and after-school programs and to create an additional partnership with the Milton Public Library.
FAME provides enrichment activities to improve the academic success of students from Title I schools. Schools are designated as Title I based on the percentage of students who come from low-income families. The grant is through the Delaware Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Center.
