Milton Food Pantry helps feed families

Donations, volunteers welcome at Goshen Hall
May 8, 2016

The all-volunteer Milton Food Pantry is edging closer to nonprofit status, but leaders say the organization can always use more help.

Operating out of Goshen Hall on Federal Street in Milton, the pantry recently incorporated and continues to recruit volunteers and donations throughout the year.

“Everything we have is donated, whether it's canned goods or breads,” volunteer Barbara Wright said. “And we don't delve into how much money people have in the bank or what kind of car they drive when we help out.”

Since the pantry opened in 2014, it has served an average of 175 people weekly, and nearly 300 adults and children each week during the holidays.

“We not only help with food, although our main goal is to feed the hungry, but we try to help out in other areas, too,” Wright said, pointing out that the pantry also provides free books for adults and children and hosts a winter coat drive.

Milton Food Pantry accepts donations Sundays from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon. Those in need of food assistance can pick up items on Mondays from 10 a.m. to noon.
