Milton murals project to be unveiled April 15

Editor’s note: Due to inclement weather expected for Saturday, April 15, the Milton public art unveiling in Mill Park has been moved to 11 a.m., Sunday, April 16.
Milton’s Economic Development Committee is set to unveil the second entry in its public arts series with a mural project in Mill Park created by 12 local artists.
The unveiling will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 15, and the theme is “Greetings,” which the committee chose because it was fun and open to interpretation.
Artists will have their work displayed in the park – four from Milton area schools including Milton Elementary School, H.O. Brittingham Elementary School, Mariner Middle School and Cape Henlopen High School, while eight artists were selected by a panel that included representatives from Milton Theatre, Broadkill Tattoo Company and Milton Arts Guild. The eight artists are Bill Warrell of Milton, Itzel Aguilar of Philadelphia, Marcia Esposito of Milton, Kimberly Duko of Ellendale, Michael Johnson of Lewes, Katherine Heisler of Milton, Sarah Short of Georgetown and Mal Meehan of Milton.
Each artist was given a $500 honorarium and $150 to purchase materials for their mural. Each was also given a plywood board supplied by Wyoming Millwork. The project was funded in part by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts
The unveiling event will feature music by Jeff Evans and coffee and churros from Zava Cafe. Milton Arts Guild will also have artists on hand to give a demonstration of Zentangle, a miniature abstract work of art created by a collection of patterns. There will also be jewelry for sale created by local designer Salt Bleu Designs.
The murals display will last until Friday, June 30.
This is the second public art installation sponsored by the committee, part of a three-year plan to bring public art to Milton. The first was three wood sculptures donated by Lewes artist Roy Fitzgerald unveiled in September and displayed for six weeks.
