Milton nonprofits set up ways to help victims of Federal Street fire

September 29, 2020

On Sept. 22, a fire broke out on Federal Street in Milton that resulted in great loss for both residential and commercial units. Thankfully, no one was physically harmed; however, damage to the apartments and many of the shops is significant.

Businesses that were most affected were The Speckled Roost Home Décor & More, The Nest Spa & Skincare, and Paisley Moon Salon. Immediate need as described by some of these owners is funds for their employees and to cover immediate expenses.

Milton businesses, nonprofits, and residents immediately began reaching out to each other to discuss ways to help the business owners of those three shops. The Milton Community Foundation and the Milton Chamber of Commerce have set up the following avenues in which anyone can help those affected by this fire.

The Milton Community Foundation has set up a GoFundMe account (Milton Small Business Fire Relief) to help raise money for the three businesses and their employees. To donate, go to charity.gofundme.com/milton-small-business-fire-relief.

Donations can also be made directly to the MCF by mailing a check to the MCF, P.O. Box 12, Milton, DE. 19968. Note on the check for “Fire Relief.” Donations in any amount are appreciated and will help these small businesses make it through this very difficult time.

The Milton Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant to hold a gift card drive. Those who would like to donate a gift card in any amount should bring it to the Irish Eyes in Milton. Gift cards can be generic or from a local restaurant, grocery store or retailer; anything that would be helpful to someone who is suddenly out of work. Any donations big or small will help support these Milton small businesses during this very difficult time.
