Milton woman charged in Lewes Dollar General Store robbery
A Milton woman was charged Jan. 13 after police say she robbed the Dollar General Store on Savannah Road and was found a short time later with a disabled car.
Police responded to the Dollar General about 7 p.m. and learned a woman wearing sweatpants, a sweatshirt and a mask approached two store employees and implied she had a gun. Police said she demanded money and stole money from the register before fleeing in a Ford Focus with a Delaware tag.
About 8 p.m., police said, a trooper responded to the 14000 block of Staytonville Road in Lincoln for a disabled Ford Focus in the roadway and found Shelly Sortino, 41, who matched the description of the robbery suspect. A computer check showed Sortino had an active capias warrant, and the license plate on the Focus was stolen. Police identified Sortino as the suspect in the robbery, and she was arrested without incident.
Sortino was taken to Troop 7 where she was charged with first-degree robbery and wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony. She was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $33,000 secured bond.
