Milton Zombiefest set for Oct. 15

September 24, 2022

Milton Theatre is set to bring back an annual fall favorite, a time when the dead walk and the freaks come out at night: Zombiefest.

The annual event, starting at 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 15, is back and Director Fred Munzert said this year’s iteration will see an expanded freak show with five performers, a kids zone with activities, food vendors, and music inside the theater and outside on the Quayside Stage. The Zombie Walk, in which ghouls of all kinds make their way down Union Street in front of the theater, will take place at 8 p.m.

Munzert said he hopes the weather cooperates after last year’s Zombie Walk and outdoor performances were canceled due to rain, resulting in the bulk of the festival’s events being moved inside at the fire hall and theater.

Munzert said the theater wants to keep the festival familiar to visitors, with the biggest change being the expanded freak show. He said favorites such as Pirates Plunder will be back, as well as the costume contest. Three bands will take the main theater stage: Bastion’s Wake, Lower Case Blues and Universal Funk Order. Munzert said the theater booked one less group on the main stage than last year to let the bands play expanded sets.

“We’re super excited about it. Hopefully the weather holds out. I think it’s going to be a great year,” he said.

While everything will be contained on the Milton Theatre property, visitors should be advised that the Magnolia Street parking lot is still closed for construction. Parking can be found at the fire hall on Front Street and at the lot adjacent to the Milton Historical Society’s Lydia Cannon Museum. Visitors should also get into town fairly early, as sections of Union Street will be closed throughout the day for the festival. Should rain strike again, events will be moved to the fire hall.

Tickets for Zombiefest are $10 for adults, and free for children and students. Proceeds from the event will go to Milton Theatre, Milton Fire Department and Milton Community Food Pantry. To get tickets or register for the Zombie Walk, go to www.miltontheatre.com.
