Mindfulness for Everyone series to start Oct. 3

September 20, 2022

HealTree will present Mindfulness for Everyone from 9 to 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 3, continuing weekly through Oct. 24, at 1632 Savannah Road, Suite 10, Lewes.

Mindfulness is the ability to be fully present in the moment, a skill which requires practice to improve proficiency. By practicing mindfulness, one can regulate the stress response and reduce its harmful effects, which include immune-system suppression and cellular aging. Mindfulness has the power to change brain structures, affecting thought patterns, reaction patterns and nervous system responses.

Practicing mindfulness can protect the brain from decline and neurological diseases. Overall, mindfulness practices have been shown through research to decrease stress, anxiety and depression symptoms, and pain perception; they can also improve emotional regulation, immune function, and sleep; and increase focus, self-awareness and overall well-being.

In this four-week series, participants can learn about the science behind mindfulness and practice three different present-moment awareness exercises each week. They may choose to attend all four sessions or drop in for one class. Cost is $25 per session, with an $80 prepayment discount for all four sessions.

This series will be guided by Maxine Middlebrook, who often refers to herself as a fellow healing human and knows firsthand the benefits of authentic, holistic mental health care and wellness. Through a variety of both personal and professional experiences, she has developed a great appreciation for the human experience. She is a certified mindfulness teacher through the MCT program and holds a master’s degree in management from Wilmington University.
