Mispillion Art League’s juried show continues thru March 23

January 24, 2024

Highlighting a spectacular variety of artistic talent in the community, Mispillion Art League’s 21st Annual Judged Show is open to the public through Saturday, March 23, at 5 N. Walnut St., Milford.

Taking home the Best in Show ribbon is Patricia Fecko with her quilling piece, “Crazy Cat.” Quilling is an artistic technique using strips of paper that are rolled, shaped and glued together to create designs.

Awards were also given in the categories of pastel, watercolor, acrylic/oil, fine craft, photography and other. The show was judged by Jill Glassman, an oil painter and pastelist who resides on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Community members are also invited to learn a new skill in one of the league’s many classes for adults, teens and kids.

Coming attractions for the MAL education department include two fiber arts classes with instructor Lyanna Anderson. Students can bring a sewing machine and learn to make a reversible apron, or grab some yarn and needles, and make a beanie.

In a class with Kathy Coyne called Fluid Art Embellishment, liquid paint pours rise to a new level.

Participants will discover crucial techniques for painting light during a seven-session class with Joseph Terrone.

Whether attendees are beginners or experienced, Barry Koplowitz’s weekly instruction workshop is sure to help them get past obstacles, artists’ block and technical issues with their artwork. Participants can bring a current work in progress, and Koplowitz will provide specific individual training to each student.

MAL members can share their artwork at Mispillion Art League’s exhibits and gift shop, and enjoy discounted rates on classes.
