Miss Delaware 2019, Hillary May of Pike Creek, will travel to Uncasville, Conn., for the Miss America 2020 competition, set for Thursday, Dec. 19. The revamped national competition will be telecast live on NBC.

May holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Butler University and is currently a second-year learning sciences doctoral student in the school of education at the University of Delaware. Her talent for the upcoming competition is vocal.

Over the past six months, May has been promoting her social impact initiative, Let's Talk: Breaking the Stigma Around Mental Health, through appearances at schools and universities, and in many other events. She has worked with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in two states and is currently serving on the board of directors for the Delaware chapter.

She volunteers as a facilitator for the Healing Pathways group therapy series for grieving children ages 5-16, through an organization called Supporting KIDDS. Other partnerships she has made in the mental health community include the National Alliance on Mental Illness - Delaware and the SL24 Foundation.

"Delaware has given me so much. A home, a community, an education, and more support than I could've ever imagined. I'm going to Miss America to have the time of my life, but I'm also going to give back to Delaware, to show America what Delaware is capable of,” said May.
