More must be done to end child trafficking

July 4, 2025

The following letter was sent to Gov. Matt Meyer with a copy provided to the Cape Gazette for publication.

I am writing this note to implore you to do more to end child trafficking and the silence about what is happening in Delaware. When I first looked online – Delaware was No. 5 in all the 50 states in the U.S. for trafficking. As small as our state is, that seems to show that we are not doing enough. Nothing is reported on the news. Nothing is in the papers. No noticeable improvements. The Delaware Anti-Trafficking Action Council is attempting to do more, but it needs more support other than just funds.

They have posted signs and set up the University of Delaware to do studies, and now the Woolf Group is being paid to participate. These are notable efforts, but after posting hotline numbers in thousands of locations, there have been at least 65 calls regarding trafficking and zero prosecutions. Being in a tri-state area with a law that requires a third party to report cases is not helping. We need more legislation against this atrocity and more arrests.

Texas and Florida are making progress with tracking down the people who traffic and murder children for monetary gain. When we die, we will be judged by what we did in life, and we will be judged by what we did not do.
