'The Muppets' comes to Canalfront Park July 25

July 14, 2012

Cinema by the Canal continues its summer series of outdoor film screenings for all ages with “The Muppets” (2011) on Wednesday, July 25, at the Lewes Canalfront Park. The three-part series is sponsored by the Rehoboth Beach Film Society, Friends of Canalfront Park and Citizens Bank.

Walter, the world's biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary and Mary learn that greedy oilman Tex Richman wants to raze the Muppet Theater so he can drill for the oil underneath. The only way to save the theater is to raise $10 million. With a great plan to stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon, Walter and friends set out to reunite the Muppets, who went their separate ways years ago.

Depressed Kermit the Frog now lives in his own mansion in Hollywood. The Great Gonzo is a high-class plumber at Gonzo's Royal Flush. Fozzie Bear performs with a tribute band called The Moopets. Miss Piggy is the plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, and Animal is at a celebrity anger management rehab center in Santa Barbara. Can these characters reunite and put on the best performance ever to save the Muppet Theater?

The first Muppets theatrical release in 12 years, this musical hit features everyone’s favorite Muppet characters, along with film and television star Jason Segel (“How I Met Your Mother,” “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”), Oscar nominee Amy Adams (“Enchanted,” “Doubt”) and Oscar winner Chris Cooper (“Adaptation”). The Washington Post calls it a delightful family film that will “make sure that everyone - and I mean everyone - is happy.” A Kids Choice Awards nominee for Favorite Movie, “The Muppets” also won this year’s Academy Award for Best Song (“Man or Muppet”).

The film will begin at dusk, 8:15-8:30 p.m.,  at Canalfront Park, 211 Front St. in Lewes. Admission is free. Bring chairs or blankets and insect repellent and come enjoy a unique and fun family outdoor film experience.
