Networking dinner for Latino business owners set March 27

$tand By Me Negocios to support Latino business development in Sussex County
March 17, 2018

$tand By Me will hold a mixer for Hispanic business owners and people who want to start a business and expand their networking opportunities from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 27, at La Quetzalteca restaurant in Georgetown. The event and program are free, but registration is required.

This is the second event since $tand By Me launched its Negocios program in early January, in partnership with the Delaware Hispanic Commission and the Delaware Department of Transportation.

“Our goal is to serve as a GPS for small-business owners, by helping them to connect with the business resources they need to grow,” said Javier Torrijos, chair of the Delaware Hispanic Commission. “The networking dinners allow us to start introducing more people to the various services that will help them build stronger businesses.”

Once enrolled in $tand By Me Negocios, Hispanic entrepreneurs work with a personal financial coach to establish and achieve their financial and business goals, and learn about services available in Delaware for small-business owners. The coach also helps business owners improve their personal finances to bolster their chances of qualifying for small-business loans.

$tand By Me, a financial empowerment program and project of the state of Delaware and the United Way of Delaware, provides Delawareans with financial coaching, information and support to help them take charge of their finances to increase their personal financial security. The partnership has helped more than 100,000 Delawareans.

Negocios was launched as growth of U.S. Hispanic-owned firms continues to rise. They make up more than 40 percent of all minority-owned firms, according to the 2017 Survey of U.S. Latino business owners conducted by the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

“Programs like $tand By Me Negocios support and guide individuals to become more empowered and reach their financial goals,” said Jerry Hunter, chief operations officer at United Way of Delaware.
