Weather or Not is the theme for Gallery One’s exhibit opening Wednesday, April 1, at 32 Atlantic Ave., Ocean View.
The theme is open for interpretation, and the gallery artists have explored the many aspects of weather, climate and uncertainty. Several chose to explore storms and turbulent scenes, suggesting the emotional weather people carry within.
In his oil painting, “Where Thunder Rolls,” John Schisler depicts towering thunderheads, like the heavy burdens of life as they rise dramatically over the marsh, their glowing forms illuminating the sky before they pass. In her pastel, “Wind Swept,” Cindy Beyer portrays a weathered lighthouse that stands steadfast against the harsh waves Mother Nature throws at it, and also serves as a savior to sailors lost in the storm.
Joyce Condry shows the anger of lightning in her acrylic painting, “Clear the Beach.”
Laurie Fields’ acrylic painting, “In a Fog,” shows how not being able to see far ahead can bring a sense of mystery and unease, making the familiar feel slightly unfamiliar.
Dale Sheldon’s acrylic, “Fire and Ice,” shows a colorful sunset over a snowy landscape near Rehoboth Bay.
In his oil painting, “Harbor Mist,” Ed Lewandowski shows how light softens every line of the harbor and blurs the world into uncertainty, hiding shoals, markers and the very horizon mariners depend on.
Laura Hickman’s pastel, “Cottage After Snow,” shows old cottages of Bethany sporting their winter coats to withstand the frigid blasts.
