Rehoboth Beach Film Society announced documentary screenings to open Friday, Aug. 15, are “It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley”; “Souleymane's Story” and “We Are Guardians.” The summer cinema series continues with classic films “Citizen Kane” and “Duck Soup.”
“It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley” covers the life of the rising young star with an otherworldly voice and boundary-pushing artistry who left the '90s music world reeling when he died suddenly, at age 30, after the release of his critically acclaimed debut album “Grace.” Told through never-before-seen footage from Buckley's archives and intimate accounts from his mother Mary Guibert, former partners Rebecca Moore and Joan Wasser, Jeff's former bandmates, including Michael Tighe and Parker Kindred, and luminaries like Ben Harper and Aimee Mann, the film illuminates one of modern music's most influential and enigmatic figures.
In “Souleymane's Story,” an asylum-seeking cyclist who delivers meals in Paris has only two days to prepare for a crucial interview that will determine his residence permit status.
“We Are Guardians” follows Indigenous forest guardian Marçal Guajajara and activist Puyr Tembé as they fight to protect their territories from deforestation, an illegal logger who has no choice but to cut the forest down, and a large landowner at the mercy of thousands of invaders and extractive industry. Through intimate, character-focused storytelling, the film spotlights the science of the Amazon Rainforest and its pivotal role in global climate stability, as well as the economic drivers of deforestation.
