New films opening March 3 at Cinema Art Theater

March 1, 2023

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society will present two new films opening Friday, March 3, at the Cinema Art Theater near Lewes.

“Of An Age” is a visually compelling romantic drama that follows young love across a decade. In the summer of 1999, a 17-year-old Serbian-born, Australian amateur ballroom dancer (played by Elias Anton) experiences an unexpected and intense 24-hour romance with a friend's older Irish brother (Thom Green). Directed and written by Goran Stolevski, the film premiered in August 2022 at the Melbourne International Film Festival and went on to win Best Film Award at CinefestOZ. Its U.S. debut was Feb. 17, 2023.

“Linoleum” is a science fiction comedy-drama about a 54-year-old sad sack whose life finds a grander direction. Cameron Edwin (Jim Gaffigan), the host of a failing TV science show for children, has always had aspirations of being an astronaut. When a mysterious satellite falls from space and lands in his backyard, his midlife crisis manifests into a plan to rebuild the machine into a rocket. As surreal events start to unfold around him, Edwin slowly realizes that there's more to his life story than he once thought.

An encore screening of “If You Lived Here, You Would Be Home Now: A Film About Jack Lewis and Bridgeville, DE,” will be presented at 2 p.m., March 3.

This week’s Sunday Anime Matinee, set for 2 p.m., March 5, is “Ride Your Wave,” from visionary director Masaaki Yuasa (“The Night is Short”). This deeply emotional new film applies his trademark visual ingenuity to a tale of romance, grief and self-discovery.

Hinako is a surf-loving college student who has just moved to a small seaside town. When a sudden fire breaks out at her apartment building, she is rescued by Minato, a handsome firefighter, and the two soon fall in love. Just as they become inseparable, Minato loses his life in an accident at sea. Hinako is so distraught, she can no longer even look at the ocean, but one day she sings a song that reminds her of their time together, and Minato appears in the water. From then on, she can summon him in any watery surface as soon as she sings their song, but can the two really remain together forever? And what is the real reason for Minato’s sudden reappearance?

Admission is $9 for RBFS members, $11.50 for general audience and $5 for students. To purchase tickets, go to rehobothfilm.com. If seats are available, admission can be purchased at the theater starting 30 minutes prior to each screening.
